Rhonda Smith is a member of HPLP’s workers’ compensation defense team in the Columbia office, representing employers, insurers and self-insureds in a wide array of industries.
Skilled at not only managing complex legal matters but also maintaining productive relationships and communication, Smith joined HPLP after first gaining considerable experience representing clients for a large Southeastern insurance defense firm. Prior to her focus on workers’ compensation defense, she worked for nearly a decade in the field of bankruptcy law.
Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina-Columbia before earning a Juris Doctor at the Charlotte School of Law, where she also volunteered for VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) and was a Cali award recipient for Interviewing, Counseling and Negotiations. She is a member of numerous professional and community organizations, including the South Carolina Bar Association, Richland County Bar Association, South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association and the Junior League of Columbia.
A native South Carolinian, Smith enjoys spending time on her farm with her husband and black lab as they prepare to welcome their first child in February 2017.
